The Foundation is governed by an external Board of Directors comprised of ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï graduates, donors, and community leaders. The full Board meets four times per year and has grown from 14 members in 2015 to 40 members today. Board members serve up to three, three-year terms.

Deron is a '92 alum from ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Plaster School of Business. He later completed his MBA in Finance and is a graduate of the Stonier Banking School at Penn. He has held the position of President and CEO at People's Bank of Seneca since 2006. A lifelong resident of Southwest Missouri, Deron is active in the community as he serves on the Board of Directors for the Seneca R-7 School Foundation and is a member of the Philanthropic Society. Deron currently serves as a member of the FDIC Minority Depository Institutions Subcommittee in Washington DC, is chairman of the Missouri Bankers Association PAC Committee, and was appointed to represent Missouri on the Community Bankers Council of the American Bankers Association.

Vicky is an ‘81 alumna of the MSSU College of Education. With a tenure of nearly four decades at the Ozark Center, a division of Freeman Hospital, Vicky has held the position of chief administrative officer since 2017. Drawing from her extensive experience with the Ozark Center, Vicky brings a wealth of knowledge in program development, policy and procedure creation, and administrative oversight. Her experience in these areas allows her ability to effectively navigate complex systems and provide strategic leadership.

Brian is a ’99 alum from the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Plaster School of Business with a degree in accounting. Brian is the president and managing partner at Schmidt CPAS & Advisors, a position he has held since 2011. Brian's expertise extends beyond traditional accounting as he is also a Certified Public Accountant and holds an Accredited in Business Valuation designation, highlighting his comprehensive knowledge and skill in financial analysis and business valuation. Brian brings valuable insights and strategic guidance to further the university's mission and vision.

Gary is a ’76 alum from ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems. He recently retired as the president and CEO of Hiland Dairy after 20 years leading and growing the company. Throughout his tenure, Hiland Dairy has been a steadfast supporter of MSSU, offering generous sponsorship at various levels. Gary has served as a board member of the International Dairy Foods Association, MilkPEP, Quality Chekd Dairies, Inc., the Missouri Dairy Products Association, and as a member of the Missouri Grocers Association. He was inducted into the Missouri Dairy Hall of Honor in 2009 and was named MSSU Outstanding Alum that same year. In 2021, The Missouri Grocers Association awarded him their Lifetime Achievement Award.

Russ is a ’77 graduate from ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï with a degree in business. He was named the Outstanding Student in Economics and Finance in his senior year. Russ went on to work 15 years in banking, rising to executive vice president, then began a 25 year career with Edward Jones as a financial advisor. Russ’s office grew to a top 10% office nationwide in assets under management and client service excellence ratings. Russ is semiretired now and is a volunteer consultant in several fields.

Dr. Beth Barlet is a local obstetrician-gynecologist providing healthcare through Mercy Hospital-Joplin and Mercy Hospital-Carthage. Her academic journey began at MSSU, where she earned her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in '84 before earning her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. Dr. Barlet's service on the Foundation Board exemplifies her dedication to advancing education and healthcare within the community.

Sallie, a ‘72 graduate of MSSU, has left an indelible mark on the university and the athletics department. During her 37-year tenure at MSSU, she established the first women's sports teams, serving as both a coach and eventually Athletics Director. Sallie became the first AD to oversee both the men's and women's athletic programs at MSSU in 2001, breaking barriers and setting new standards of inclusivity. She was an active member of various NCAA Division II committees and was appointed to the association-wide NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics, where she played a pivotal role in developing Title IX language for the Office of Civil Rights. Her contributions were honored with the prestigious Nike Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) in 2014. She has been inducted into multiple halls of fame including the MSSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Joplin Sports Hall of Fame, Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and MIAA Hall of Fame. Sallie has continued to serve her community. Following the devastating 2011 tornado that struck Joplin, she actively participated in the rebuilding efforts, organizing housing for the countless volunteers who flocked to the city. In recognition of her commitment to education, she was appointed to the Joplin Schools Board of Education in 2015. Her philanthropic spirit shines through her volunteer work with Building Bridges of Joplin and her involvement with the Lafayette House Board.

Dr. Beverly Block has been at ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï since 1984. Even though she has held several administrative roles, teaching business courses has been her favored position. She retired in 2019 but remains an adjunct faculty member. Beverly and her husband, Ken, have supported the MSSU Plaster School of Business for over 30 years.

Sean is a ’95 graduate from MSSU earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He is a territory business manager at Alkermes, a global biopharmaceutical company developing innovative medicines in the fields of neuroscience and oncology. Sean has successfully built a career in the pharmaceutical industry with consistent performance in sales and sales training leadership. Having held a number of roles within Alkermes, he has used his skills to serve on regional leadership councils, national field sales councils, and national diversity councils. Sean is active in the community by serving on the executive committee and board of Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity, as well as dedicating over 20 years to volunteer coaching youth soccer in the Joplin region. Sean’s passion for partnering with others to drive success has made him a great addition to the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Foundation Board.

Scott, ’75, is president and CEO of The Insurancenter, an independent insurance agency located in Joplin. Scott began his career at The Insurancenter in 1974 and rose to his current position as president in 1985. Scott has nearly 50 years of insurance experience and is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). In 2012, he was recognized as MAIA’s Insurance Person of the Year. Scott served on the advisory boards of several insurance companies (CNA, Hartford, Cigna, Missouri Employer Mutual, et.al.) and is currently a member of several national independent insurance agent associations. He is a past national board member of the Independent Agents and Brokers Association. Scott is also a past member of Plaster College of Business Advisory Board. A native of Carl Junction, Mo., Angel is an Edward Jones financial advisor in Joplin. She graduated from ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï State University in 2014 with a degree in business administration.

Larry is a ’72 ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï graduate from the School of Education. Currently, he is a financial advisor for Southwest Missouri Bank and has 19 years of experience in brokerage investments. He is the president of the Carl Junction Board of Education, where he has faithfully served for over two decades. Larry also dedicates his time and expertise to the Joplin Golf Foundation board. Larry's financial acumen has positively impacted countless individuals and businesses in the region. Being a lifelong resident of Carl Junction, he brings a deep understanding of the community's needs and aspirations. Larry’s passion for education, community, and financial expertise lead to his appointment to the Foundation Board.

Ashley is a ’02 MSSU graduate from the Plaster School of Business with a degree in economics and finance. Ashley earned her MBA from Missouri State University in 2008. She is the accounting outsourcing associate at the Davis CPA Group. In this role, she provides a wide range of essential financial and accounting services, including general accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets accounting, payroll accounting, and budgeting. Ashley's dedication to accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality results make her an valuable asset to the organization. Perry has held several executive positions at Leggett & Platt, where he served as the executive vice president and the president of residential products and industrial products before his recent retirement. Known for his exceptional leadership and strategic acumen, Perry's contributions have played a pivotal role in driving the success of the organization. Sharrock is an attorney at Warten, Fisher & Lee, LLC, focusing his expertise on areas including estate planning, business planning, taxation, probate, commercial transactions, real property matters, mergers and acquisitions, and employment law. Beyond his professional endeavors, Sharrock's serves on a variety of civic and community boards including the Joplin Workshops Incorporated, Joplin Schools Foundation, Jasper County Bar Association, Missouri Bar Association, and is a former member of the Joplin School Board. With his diverse legal background and commitment to community service, Sharrock is making a positive impact in both the legal realm and the Joplin community.

Nick Edwards, an alum of the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï State University School of Arts and Sciences, graduated in '07 with a degree in political science. With a strong passion for public service, Nick is the Joplin city manager since 2020 and former assistant city manager for the City of Lee’s Summit. Nick's dedication to his role has made a significant impact on the community, contributing to the city's growth and development. Nick served our country in the United States Marine Corps.

Jeff's professional accomplishments include his current role as the executive vice president and chief supply chain officer at Genuine Parts Company as well as a former executive for Walmart. Delores' dedication to ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï State University spans an impressive 37-year career. She has served in a variety of roles including faculty within the Plaster School of Business, assistant vice president of Assessment and Institutional Research, and Director of Donor Relations. Delores' philanthropic spirit extends beyond her work at the university, as she actively engages with numerous organizations within the Carthage community including the Carthage Community Foundation serving as the secretary and treasurer.

Amy Ipsen is a ’18 alum from the MSSU Plaster School of Business with a degree in finance. She is a small business owner of La Boussole, a medical spa and wellness center located in Joplin, MO. Amy is involved in the local community serving as the treasurer of the Joplin Athletic Boosters Club and is a supporter of the arts through the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts and the Cornell Complex. She and her husband Brian have been active supporters of MSSU since 2015.

Steve is a long-time professional in the banking industry, currently serving as the chief strategy officer at Southwest Missouri Bank, a community bank with 11 branches throughout the region. He also serves on the SMB Board of Directors. Steve's career began at Baird, Kurtz & Dobson Wealth Advisors (now FORVIS) in 1977, where he became partner in 1987. Ten years later he made the transition to Southwest Missouri Bank, assuming the roles of chief operating officer and executive vice president, before being appointed as president in 2006. Steve has served as the chairman of the Plaster School of Business Advisory Board since its inception.

Shelly Kraft graduated in 1991 from ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï State University with a degree in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Early Childhood. She currently works at Kraft Insurance as an Account Executive and serves as the treasurer of the Creative Learning Alliance Board. A science center in the community has been Shelly's dream since her teaching days, as she believes exhibits that promote problem-solving, and creativity will be a significant benefit to the community. Shelly is passionate about inspiring children and students to stay connected to their community, using their gifts and talents to help it grow. An active member of Joplin, she was proud to be named one of Joplin’s Most Influential Women several years ago.

Karen is an alumna of the University of Arizona, graduating in 1988. Her highly visible involvement within the Joplin community includes supporting the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts and the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex, where she actively promotes an appreciation of the arts. Karen and her husband Rob have supported the university for over a decade.

Will is a ’10 alumnus of ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï with a bachelor's degree in political science. He currently serves Newton County as the prosecuting attorney. Will is a life-long resident of Southwest Missouri and holds degrees from MSSU, University of Missouri School of Law, and Mizzou’s Truman School of Public Affairs. With a background in public policy, governmental affairs, and alternative dispute resolution, Will brings a wealth of experience to his role as a prosecutor and to the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Foundation board.

Cary is senior vice president at The Insurancenter, a full-service insurance agency offering comprehensive business and personal insurance solutions in the Four-State area. Cary is a past vice president of both the Crowder College Foundation and the Wanda Memorial Cemetery Association. Cary's contributions and leadership make him a highly respected professional within both the insurance sector and the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï community.

Mike is an 87’ graduate from the MSSU Plaster School of Business with a degree in Management Tech. Mike currently serves as the CEO of Anderson Merchandisers, a product merchandising company. Prior to this role, Mike retired as the executive vice president and president of Supercenters –Walmart U.S. where his responsibilities included all aspects of the operations of the Supercenter format. Having joined Walmart in 1988 as an assistant manager in Carthage, Missouri, Mike transitioned into various leadership roles within the organization. In recognition of his entrepreneurial abilities, Mike received the Sam M. Walton Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2005. In addition to his accomplishments at Walmart, Mike's dedication to fostering growth and education is evident through his involvement in various advisory and board roles which includes serving on the MSSU Plaster School of Business Advisory Board, Boys and Girls Club of Benton County Board, and the board of directors for both Sabrosura Foods and Golding Farms.

John is the CEO and founder of SNC Squared, a company specializing in state-of-the-art cyber security services for businesses in the local area. Kevin Parker, a 1996 graduate of ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï State University's Plaster School of Business with a degree in Business Administration, is a dedicated member of the Joplin community. He founded Parker Development LLC in 2006 and serves as the company's President. Since January 2018, Kevin has been a member of the Joplin Industrial Development Authority Board. In 2018, the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Parker Development for its work in creating the Memorial Hill community and helping rebuild the city of Joplin. Kevin is also actively involved in the community, serving on the Stapleton Elementary Bright Futures committee.

Troy Richards, a 1990 alumnus of ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï State University's College of Health Sciences with a degree in Criminal Justice, has actively contributed to the MSSU community. He served on the MSSU Alumni Board from 2014 to 2024 and has been a member of the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Foundation Board's Strategic Planning Committee. His wife, Jenny, graduated in 1986 with a degree in Dental Hygiene and has also served on the Alumni Board. Currently, Troy is a Police Officer with the Carthage Police Department.

Elizabeth brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role as the executive director of the McCune-Brooks Healthcare Foundation, a position she has held since 2001. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated her commitment to community service and leadership, as evidenced by her active participation on various boards. Elizabeth has served on the Carthage R-9 School Foundation Board, the Carthage Humane Society Board, and the Carthage Chamber of Commerce Board. Elizabeth's longstanding membership and involvement with the Helen S. Boylan Foundation, where she also holds an officer position, underlines her sustained commitment to philanthropic endeavors.

Dick is a ’70 graduate from Missouri Southern with a Bachelor of Science degree. As the owner and president of RE Smith Construction Company, a reputable local commercial construction firm established in 1952, Dick has made significant contributions to the growth and development of the region. His company is responsible for the construction of numerous buildings on the Missouri Southern campus including Lion Village dormitory, the North End Zone Facility, and the Beimdiek Recreation Center in addition to a large number of buildings throughout the Four-State area.

Emily Stanley brings expertise in public relations and as an accomplished volunteer leader for both arts and educational causes. She has served in communication roles for the Empire District Electric Company, Freeman Health System, and the United Way of Southwest Missouri & Southeast Kansas. She is a current Trustee of the Joplin Public Library, member of the Friends of St. Avips in support of the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, an active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic School Home & School Organization, and on the board of directors of Pro Musica.

Dan is a retired professor from the MSSU Plaster School of Business. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, he played a pivotal role in the early stages of ºÚÁϳԹÏ's transformation to a four-year college. During his tenure, Dan taught accounting, finance, and investment courses, shaping the minds of future business leaders. In 1975, he embarked on a successful career at the Joplin office of Baird, Kurtz & Dobson Wealth Advisors (now FORVIS), where his skills as a certified public accountant led to his promotion to partner in 1982. Throughout his professional journey, Dan specialized in income and estate taxes, business succession planning, and business consulting. Dan serves as director and treasure of the H.O.P.E. 4You Breast Cancer Foundation, director of the Mercy Foundation, director of Community Bank & Trust, and director of Community Bancshares.

Tammy is a ’89 alum from the MSSU Plaster School of Business with a degree in accounting. Tammy has worked for Leggett & Platt, a diversified manufacturer for over 25 years. She holds the position of senior vice president and chief accounting officer, showcasing her exceptional leadership skills and expertise in the corporate world. Tammy serves on the Plaster School of Business Advisory Board, as the treasurer of the Lafayette House, and on the Carthage Crisis Center board. Bryan, a ’92 alum from the MSSU Plaster School of Business, has earned notable credentials including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification. Bryan serves as CEO of Vowels Stovern Wealth. His active engagement in the community is evident through his contributions to numerous community boards and impactful projects. Notably, Bryan is the co-founder and former Chair of the Philanthropic Society and serves on the Community Foundation of the Ozarks and Joplin Regional Community Foundation. He helped create the ASPIRE Single Parents Scholarship Program of Southwest Missouri. His achievements have garnered recognition, including being honored with the MSSU Outstanding Alumni award in 2012, and consecutively securing a place on the Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisors ranking from 2018 to 2022.

Theresa (Terry) is a former executive at Mercy Hospital Joplin, where she demonstrated exceptional abilities in healthcare administration. Her contributions to the Joplin area extend beyond the healthcare sector. She has served on city committees including co-chairing the Joplin Proud 5-year tornado anniversary and the Joplin Community Health Collaborative. Terry has a long history of community Board service including having chaired United Way, Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce and Joplin Area Catholic School Boards. She led two successful United Way campaigns and a building campaign for the Chamber. Terry served as the interim president of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the Operation Team of Building Bridges, a volunteer organization committed to fostering community connections and resolving poverty for struggling families. She has been a trained facilitator for One Joplin and was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as one of its Outstanding Citizens. Her leadership experience coupled with her dedication to community development make Terry an asset to the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Foundation Board.

Dot and her husband Bob have established themselves as unwavering supporters of MSSU, leaving a lasting impact on campus through their generous contributions. The Willcoxons commitment to advancing education and healthcare can be seen through the creation of Willcoxon Health Center and their willingness to serve as Lions Forward campaign co-chairs. Dot’s involvement in local organizations, including Lafayette House and the Joplin Public Library, showcases her dedication to uplifting the Joplin community.
